Raising a Doberman in Michigan: cold winters
With a short single coat and little undercoat, Dobermans feel the cold more than many large breeds. Most Doberman owners in cold-winter states use a fitted dog jacket for winter walks, keep outdoor time short in sub-freezing weather, and wipe paws after walks on salted roads. Winter storms can delay flights, so we watch the forecast closely and keep you updated before any travel day.
Before you buy in Michigan
- Check your city or county rules on dog licensing, rabies vaccination timing, and any breed-specific ordinances
- Confirm your lease, HOA, and homeowner's or renter's insurance allow Dobermans
- Find a Michigan veterinarian and book an exam within 7 days of your puppy's arrival
- Look for a positive-reinforcement puppy class near you
