Getting your puppy home to Nevada
Las Vegas, Nevada is roughly 1,440 road miles from Billings, Missouri — about 24.7 hours by road. For this distance an in-cabin flight nanny to Harry Reid International (LAS) is usually the most comfortable option for a young puppy, and we will quote it in writing. Pickup in Billings is always welcome too. Keep in mind that Nevada is on Pacific time and we are on Central time, which affects call and travel times.
Our nearest airport is Springfield–Branson National Airport (SGF), about 25 miles from Billings. Puppies travel only when at least 8 weeks old and healthy, with their records and the health certificate required for interstate travel. Full details: delivery & pickup.
Nevada's climate and your Doberman: desert or very hot, dry summers
Summer pavement in desert climates can burn a puppy's paw pads, so test the ground with the back of your hand and walk at dawn or after sunset. Dry heat dehydrates puppies faster than many owners expect — carry water on every outing. Summer cargo restrictions are common on flights into hot-weather airports, so we plan in-cabin or ground delivery around the weather.
| Season | What it means for a Doberman puppy in Nevada |
|---|---|
| Spring | Ideal training weather; watch for foxtails and snakes as they become active. |
| Summer | Avoid midday heat and hot pavement; exercise early and indoors. |
| Fall | Return to longer outings; keep water with you in dry air. |
| Winter | Comfortable days for hikes and socialization; cold desert nights call for a coat. |
Health and safety topics in Nevada
Hot pavement and summer heat
Summer pavement and artificial turf can burn paw pads. Test the ground with the back of your hand, walk at dawn and after dark in peak summer, and never leave your Doberman in a parked car.
Valley fever
Valley fever (coccidioidomycosis) is caused by a fungus that lives in the soil of parts of the Southwest. Dogs that dig and sniff in desert soil can inhale the spores. Coughing, fever, lethargy, weight loss, or lameness are reasons to mention Valley fever to your veterinarian.
Foxtails and grass awns
Dry grass seeds known as foxtails are common across much of the West. They can work their way into ears, noses, paws, and eyes. Check your puppy after walks in dry grass, especially between the toes, and see your vet if your dog suddenly shakes its head, sneezes repeatedly, or licks a paw.
Wildfire smoke
Wildfire smoke can affect dogs as well as people. On poor air-quality days, keep exercise short and indoors, watch for coughing or labored breathing, and keep an evacuation kit ready during fire season.
