Good nutrition and a steady veterinary routine set up a Doberman puppy for a healthy adulthood. This is general guidance — your veterinarian knows your puppy best.
Choose a large-breed puppy food
Large-breed puppy formulas are designed to support steady growth. Rapid growth is not the goal for a big breed. Ask us what your puppy has been eating so you can transition gradually over 7–10 days.
Meal schedule
Most puppies do well on three meals a day until about six months, then two. Measure food, watch body condition (you should feel ribs easily), and adjust with your vet.
Bloat precautions
Dobermans are deep-chested, which puts them at risk of gastric dilatation-volvulus (bloat). Avoid strenuous exercise around meals and learn the emergency signs: unproductive retching, a swollen belly, restlessness. Go to an emergency vet immediately if you see them.
Vaccines and parasite prevention
Your puppy arrives with records of the vaccines and deworming already given. Your vet will continue the core vaccine series and recommend heartworm, flea, and tick prevention suited to where you live. See our typical vaccine schedule.
Checkups
Book a wellness exam within 7 days of arrival — it is also part of our sales agreement. Then follow your vet's schedule for boosters, spay/neuter timing, and adult screening.
