Training a Doberman puppy is easiest when sessions are short, frequent, and fun. Here is a simple starting plan for the first months.

House training

Take your puppy out after waking, eating, drinking, and playing, and every 1–2 hours while awake at first. Use the same spot and reward immediately after success. Clean accidents with an enzyme cleaner and never punish — just supervise more closely.

Crate training

Make the crate a calm, comfortable place with a chew toy. Start with short periods while you are home, and build up slowly. A divider keeps an adult-size crate puppy-sized.

The first cues

  1. Name: say the name, reward when the puppy looks at you.
  2. Sit and down: lure with a treat, then fade the lure.
  3. Come: practice in short distances indoors with high-value rewards. Never call your puppy to something unpleasant.
  4. Leave it: teach early — Dobermans are curious.

Loose-leash walking

Reward your puppy for being beside you. Stop when the leash goes tight; move forward when it loosens. Short sessions beat long struggles.

Alone time

Practice brief separations from day one so your puppy learns that you always come back. This helps prevent separation stress in a breed that loves company.
