Both male and female Dobermans make loyal, trainable companions. The differences are real but smaller than individual personality.

Size

Adult males typically stand about 26–28 inches and weigh roughly 75–100 pounds; females about 24–26 inches and roughly 60–90 pounds. If size and strength on the leash matter to you, that is a practical consideration.

Maturity

Females often mature a little earlier. Many owners find males stay puppyish a bit longer.

Behavior

Owners often describe males as goofy and very attached, and females as independent and quick to learn — but plenty of dogs break those patterns. Ask the breeder about each puppy individually.

Other dogs at home

If you already have a dog, many trainers suggest an opposite-sex pairing is often easier, especially with two adult Dobermans. Discuss your current dog with us.

Spay and neuter

Timing for large breeds is a conversation with your veterinarian.
